NESQUEHONING, PA– Westchester Plastics—a leader in custom plastic compounding—has significantly expanded its compounding capabilities with the installation of new Werner & Pfleiderer twin-screw extruders at its Nesquehoning, PA, and Wapakoneta, OH, facilities.
“The new capacity provides Westchester Plastics with greater flexibility and service capability and allows us to better meet the needs of our customers for high-performance engineering resins,” notes Raymond J. Cavanaugh, Vice President and General Manager of AMETEK Chemical Products.
“Westchester Plastics has more than 50 years of experience in custom compounding of plastic resins, offering a range of capabilities in twin-screw, single-screw and continuous-mixer technology,” he adds.
Westchester Plastics installed a 92-mm extruder at Nesquehoning and a 70-mm extruder at Wapakoneta. Both extruders are type ZSK MEGAcompounder from Coperion Corp., the world leader in compounding systems for the engineering plastics.
“At a time when many toll compounders were retracting, Westchester Plastics has witnessed an increase in business for their reactive compounding business along with significant gains in new engineering polymer grades. Both of these extruders were designed specifically for these products, “ notes Glenn Rasberry, National Sales Manager for Westchester Plastics.
He adds that along with the added capacity of these two extruder lines, Westchester is also expanding to its value added services portfolio. At the present time, agreements are being finalized with two major customers to handle their warehousing and logistical needs. In addition, Westchester is beefing up its technical and process staff to support their customers developmental needs.
“One of our main strategic goals is to be the best in customer service,” comments Rasberry. “To accomplish that goal, we must offer more service to our customers and perform to higher levels than toll compounders have done in the past.
